Welcome to eatavegan!

My name is Shayne, and I’m a twenty-two year old vegan from Illinois. I became a vegan when I was seventeen. When people ask me why, I usually respond, “Because it’s what makes my body feel good.” For me, veganism is the perfect balance; it sounds cliche, but when I’m eating mostly fresh fruits and veggies with lots of whole grains, nuts, and seeds, I feel the most harmony between my head and my tummy. So that’s what I eat.
I’m in the process of being certified to teach secondary level English, so I spend most of my time lounging around reading when I’m not in class or working as a graduate assistant at the college.
In addition to reading, writing, and eating, I also like to run and do yoga. I’m not a particularly fast runner, but I enjoy it and it keeps me healthy, and I think that’s what matters. I am trying to get faster and better, though, so perhaps the topic of running will sneak its way onto the blog from time to time…
My favorite meal is breakfast. My favorite book is The Heart is Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. My favorite poem is Sunday Morning by Wallace Stevens. My favorite movie is The Cat’s Meow. My favorite song is I’m a Cuckoo by Belle and Sebastian. I like to pull my socks up really high when I rollerblade. I am a terrible driver. My little sister is the love of my life. I like my sock monkey, Nelson. Did you know that sock monkeys call Rockford home too?

And, last but in no way least, this is my puppy, Barbara Walters.

That’s me for now. I’ll amend/update as life happens.
