Lots of Raw!

31May09

So I know it’s Sunday (crazy!) but my thesis has been taking over my life this week due to an important deadline tomorrow (yikes), so I am just getting around to posting the last Raw Wednesday. My raw foods that day weren’t super exciting… For a snack, I used some of the almond pulp from [...]

Sister and I bought a ton of rhubarb at the farmers market this week, and she decided that she wanted to make jam. We sifted through tons of recipes online, looking for one that didn’t involve strawberry or animal products. Our pickiness paid off when we found this recipe for Lebanon County Rhubarb Jam; apparently [...]

I picked up a huge bunch of radishes at the farmers market on Saturday and knew I wanted to use them for our family’s Memorial Day cookout. My inspiration for this salad came partly from my favorite beet salad and partly from a pretty picture on my lovely friend Molly’s blog. The union of the [...]

I’ve been wanting to make raw almond milk forever, and now that I’m home and have my good blender back, I can. The Little Blender that Couldn’t would never have been able to accomplish the task; he leaked, so he couldn’t really handle more than a few tablespoons of liquid for a smoothie. So almond [...]

I’m home! After a VERY long day of traveling yesterday (and staying awake for 23 hours straight on only three hours’ sleep), I am finally settling into Rockford again. The weather is absolutely gorgeous and everything seems to be just as I left it. Such a happy homecoming….
But back to Spain! I have lots and [...]

Barcelona was AMAZING — exactly what I needed, and everyone said I left Dublin at just the right time because the weather here was pretty crappy the whole week I was gone. I was certainly glad to be in the sunshine!

My beautiful sister at Parc Guell — more on that to come in Barcelona Part [...]

I was planning on updating regularly from Barcelona, and there is wireless where I’m staying, but it seems I am not able to upload photos for some reason! I’ve tried for three days in a row with no luck, so I suppose I’ll just have to wait and do a big recap when I get [...]

What to make for dinner in a tiny, virtually unstocked kitchen when you don’t want to go out and buy every spice and basic ingredient just for a two week stay? This was a tough one.

Gary had an old bag of pasta lying around, so I built off that. And yes, that is the extent [...]

So guess what? Jenna and Gena are holding a Raw Challenge for the month of May. I know. So exciting. The deal is: every Wednesday in May, eat one raw meal and one raw snack. There is already a pretty high incidence of raw food in my diet, but I don’t often go to great [...]

What sort of food accompanies a movie night featuring Emma (Gwyneth version) and Clueless? I wasn’t sure either and wasn’t about to feature something akin to Cher’s burnt cookie log, so I went with an old standby… hummus. Like Clueless, always a classic.

I was just going to go with a standard hummus recipe, but I [...]
